Esco Biotech is the first manufacturer of biological safety cabinets to offer anti-microbial powder-coating on our laminar flow and biosafety cabinets on a world-wide basis.

As part of Esco Biotech’s continuous efforts to improve our products, Isocide™ anti-microbial powder-coating adds an additional safety dimension to our containment cabinets by minimising microbial contamination and inhibiting bacterial growth within internal cabinet areas thus enhancing operator and product protection. The anti-microbial powder-coating also minimises the risk of cross-contamination via cabinet surfaces during regular usage. NB:Isocide™ surfaces are not a replacement for good cleaning practices.

When you operate an Esco biosafety cabinet, you can always depend on our commitment to provide optimum precautionary measures where microbial contact is concerned. Not only are our Labculture® Class II Type A2 biosafety cabinet treated with high-grade anti-microbial powder-coat, we also ensure that the coating itself is subject to continuous improvement in its ability to eliminate all forms of harmful microbes, including bacteria, fungi, yeast, mold, and mildew.

All Esco laminar flow and biosafety cabinets external structures are treated with the Isocide™ anti-microbial coating. Isocide™ powder-coating provides an added safety precaution by minimizing microbial contamination and inhibiting bacterial growth within internal cabinet areas. It also enhances operator and product protection by greatly reducing the risk of cross-contamination via cabinet external surfaces during regular usage

Isocide™ anti-microbial powder-coating contains anti-microbial compound, which is derived from natural elemental silver, the world’s most powerful anti-microbial metal ion. Silver ions in the powder-coating bind to cells in micro-organisms and effectively stops their critical functioning and impedes the growth of potentially hazardous bacteria on nearly any surface.

Isocide™ anti-microbial powder-coating has been effectively tested in wet environments, harsh conditions and even across light scratches, with acute toxicity of the antimicrobial compound of less than table salt. Its effectiveness lasts throughout the lifetime of the product applied on, and does not wash out or is removed by cleaning.

The effectiveness of Isocide against bacterials growth was determined using microbiological testing conducted at Esco’s inhouse microbiological laboratory. The diagram below illustrates the effectiveness of Isocide against the test element, Bacillus atrophaeus over 24 hours from point of contact.
